Post Surgical MLD
Board Approved – Live 7 CEUs
The bodyâs natural response after surgery includes an inflammatory response when the fluid nourishes the post operative area with white blood cells to start the healing process. Swelling is a normal result after surgery, and mobilizing excess fluid via the lymphatic system helps to facilitate the healing process. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is the technique used to jump start the lymphatic system post operatively to remove excess fluid and metabolic waste from the tissues in the body to optimize healing and post-surgical results.
Learn MLD techniques that are often prescribed by plastic surgeons after Brazilian buttock lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, mommy makeover, face lift, and breast augmentations to facilitate healing. Incorporate MLD into treatment plans after elective orthopedic surgeries. Use MLD to help cancer patients recover after lymph node removal. Understand how to best incorporate MLD techniques into your practice as a physical therapist, occupational therapist or massage therapist to best lead your patients and clients on the road to recovery.
- Participant will be able to define manual lymph drainage and indicate methods of use
- Participate will be able to describe important structures and functions of the lymphatic system and demonstrate knowledge of lymphatic drainage pathways
- Participate will be able to demonstrate safe MLD techniques for UE, LE, Abdomen, Face and Neck
- Participant will demonstrate knowledge of indications and contraindications of MLD
Learn effective and safe manual lymph drainage techniques to help reduce edema post operatively and optimize healing.
Physical and occupations therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, massage therapists and other medical professionals interested in learning MLD.
This will benefit medical professionals and the patients
