Course Description

Integrating progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, visualization, and breathing techniques into your existing plan of care will help your patients reduce anxiety, anticipatory pain, fears associated with pain medical interventions, muscle guarding and compensatory strategies by allowing your patient to reach a state of relaxation for both the mind and the body. As therapists, we promote healing. Increase your effectiveness with these simple techniques to reduce pain, establish a solid patient connection that keeps your patients coming back to you. Time spent with the patient remains the same, but your verbal guidance in the session will leave the patient feeling more connected and refreshed. Adding this component into your sessions will set you apart from other therapists and your patients will sing you praises with this multi approach to pain reduction.

What motivates many patients to show up for therapy? While our smiling faces and great personalities can contribute to a good therapy experience, patients are often motivated to attend therapy because they have pain and they believe the physical or occupational therapist can help alleviate their pain and improve their function. Patient’s often rate their therapy success level on their pain levels. We know pain is often anticipated pre and post-surgery, during cancer treatment, and with chronic pain conditions, but now we can greatly help our patients by incorporating relaxation techniques into our existing treatments and reducing pain in our patients for a more effective treatment intervention.

Physical and occupations therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, registered nurses, massage therapists and other medical professionals interested in learning guided imagery and relaxation techniques. Estheticians in medical settings can also incorporate these advanced techniques to enhance their treatments.

Michelle Rice, founder of “Preserva Institute”, is a physical therapist with over twenty years of experience and specializes in breast cancer rehabilitation.

She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor Degree in Human and Organizational Development and received her Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami School of Medicine. She has extensive knowledge in manual therapies and incorporates craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, trigger point release, soft tissue mobilization, scar release, manual lymph drainage, yoga, breath control and relaxation techniques into her treatments.

She is a certified lymphedema therapist and yoga instructor. She owns Preserva Therapy MED SPA where she also provides personalized outpatient therapy treatment to women and men on their path to recovery after cancer.

21. 22. USER GENERATED CONTRIBUTIONS

The Site may invite you to chat, contribute to, or participate in blogs, message boards, online forums, and other functionality, and may provide you with the opportunity to create, submit, post, display, transmit, perform, publish, distribute, or broadcast content and materials to us or on the Site, including but not limited to text, writings, video, audio, photographs, graphics, comments, suggestions, or personal information or other material (collectively, "Contributions"). CONTRIBUTION LICENSE

GOVERNING LAW

DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Binding Arbitration

If the Parties are unable to resolve a Dispute through informal negotiations, the Dispute (except those Disputes expressly excluded below) will be finally and exclusively resolved by binding arbitration. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WITHOUT THIS PROVISION, YOU WOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND HAVE A JURY TRIAL. The arbitration shall be commenced and conducted under the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") and, where appropriate, the AAA’s Supplementary Procedures for Consumer Related Disputes ("AAA Consumer Rules"), both of which are available at the AAA website www.adr.org. Your arbitration fees and your share of arbitrator compensation shall be governed by the AAA Consumer Rules and, where appropriate, limited by the AAA Consumer Rules. If such costs are determined to by the arbitrator to be excessive, we will pay all arbitration fees and expenses. The arbitration may be conducted in person, through the submission of documents, by phone, or online. The arbitrator will make a decision in writing, but need not provide a statement of reasons unless requested by either Party. The arbitrator must follow applicable law, and any award may be challenged if the arbitrator fails to do so. Except where otherwise required by the applicable AAA rules or applicable law, the arbitration will take place in Highlands County County, Florida. Except as otherwise provided herein, the Parties may litigate in court to compel arbitration, stay proceedings pending arbitration, or to confirm, modify, vacate, or enter judgment on the award entered by the arbitrator.

If for any reason, a Dispute proceeds in court rather than arbitration, the Dispute shall be commenced or prosecuted in the state and federal courts located in Highlands County County, Florida, and the Parties hereby consent to, and waive all defenses of lack of personal jurisdiction, and forum non conveniens with respect to venue and jurisdiction in such state and federal courts. Application of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and the the Uniform Computer Information Transaction Act (UCITA) are excluded from these Terms of Use.

In no event shall any Dispute brought by either Party related in any way to the Site be commenced more than one (1) years after the cause of action arose. If this provision is found to be illegal or unenforceable, then neither Party will elect to arbitrate any Dispute falling within that portion of this provision found to be illegal or unenforceable and such Dispute shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction within the courts listed for jurisdiction above, and the Parties agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of that court.

Restrictions

The Parties agree that any arbitration shall be limited to the Dispute between the Parties individually. To the full extent permitted by law, (a) no arbitration shall be joined with any other proceeding; (b) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be arbitrated on a class-action basis or to utilize class action procedures; and (c) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be brought in a purported representative capacity on behalf of the general public or any other persons.

Exceptions to Arbitration

The Parties agree that the following Disputes are not subject to the above provisions concerning binding arbitration: (a) any Disputes seeking to enforce or protect, or concerning the validity of, any of the intellectual property rights of a Party; (b) any Dispute related to, or arising from, allegations of theft, piracy, invasion of privacy, or unauthorized use; and (c) any claim for injunctive relief. If this provision is found to be illegal or unenforceable, then neither Party will elect to arbitrate any Dispute falling within that portion of this provision found to be illegal or unenforceable and such Dispute shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction within the courts listed for jurisdiction above, and the Parties agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of that court.

CORRECTIONS

There may be information on the Site that contains typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions that may relate to the Marketplace Offerings, including descriptions, pricing, availability, and various other information. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions and to change or update the information on the Site at any time, without prior notice.

Course Description

This course teaches therapists to identify, assess and treat functional deficits that can result after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. Lymphedema, radiation fibrosis, chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, post mastectomy pain syndrome, axillary web syndrome, and cancer related fatigue are just some of the conditions addressed in this course.

Conditions that will be defined and covered in the breast cancer rehabilitation courses include: radiation fibrosis, radiation induced brachial plexopathy, chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, lymphedema, phantom breast syndrome, post mastectomy pain syndrome, axillary web syndrome, cervical radiculopathy, myofascial pain syndrome, rotator cuff tendonitis, adhesive capsulitis, winged scapula, nerve entrapments, chemobrain, and cancer related fatigue. We will also address general arm weakness and stiffness as well as scar tissue adhesions.

Objectives

• Participants will be able to identify, assess, and treat physical conditions related to the physical and occupational therapy scope of practice that can result after medical breast cancer treatment

She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor Degree in Human and Organizational Development and received her Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami School of Medicine. She has extensive knowledge in manual therapies and incorporates craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, trigger point release, soft tissue mobilization, scar release, manual lymph drainage, yoga, breath control and relaxation techniques into her treatments.

She is a certified lymphedema therapist and yoga instructor. She owns Preserva Therapy MED SPA where she also provides personalized outpatient therapy treatment to women and men on their path to recovery after cancer.

Understaning Breast Cancer Rehab – Online 7 CEUs Required for full Certification

NOTE: This course is geared toward enhancing the practice and knowledge of Physical and Occupational Therapists and Assistants treating breast cancer patients; parts of this course may be outside the scope of practice for Massage Therapists. It is the responsibility of all health professionals to ensure that they work within the limits of their license.

If you have suffered from breast cancer side effects like pain, discomfort, swelling, or anxiety, this  healing two day seminar will empower you to become your own healer and rejuvenate your soul! During these 2 days, we will address the physical pain and side effects associated with breast cancer. You will learn physical therapy techniques including trigger point release, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, and manual lymph drainage to self treat and heal yourself. We will dive even deeper to discuss other holistic approaches and treatments involving your energy, vibration,  chakras, and  thoughts to help release any emotional blockages. We will show you how to incorporate yoga and mindful meditation for better movement and a grounded mind. We will be with you each step to help you let go of physical or emotional pain to allow you to continue your journey of self enlightenment and empowerment!

 

You Will be Able to:

1. Recognize the treatable side effects that cause pain, stiffness and edema; identify functional limitations after breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
2. Understand and recognize the medical conditions improved with physical therapy intervention addressed in this course  include: Radiation fibrosis syndrome, Post mastectomy pain syndrome, Phantom breast syndrome, Lymphedema of the arm, axilla, breast and/or trunk, Shoulder pain, Frozen shoulder, Neck pain and stiffness, Impingement syndrome, Neuropathy, Hypersensitivity, Chemo brain and lymphedema , axilla cording, scar tissue and fascia adhesions, myofascial pain syndrome, muscle weakness.

Day One: A Physical Therapy Approach

If you are a breast cancer survivor, come join us for a day seminar to learn how to prevent and conquer the side effects of breast cancer that no one talks about. Whether you recently beat cancer or are a long standing warrior, empower yourself with knowledge. Learn to recognize and prevent limitations from pain, stiffness, and swelling. Learn special physical therapy techniques like manual lymph drainage, soft tissue mobilization, scar tissue release, and myofascial release. Learn to recognize cellulitis and self evaluate for potential ailments. Learn breath control and appropriate exercises to improve strength, flexibility and mindfulness. Discover who and what can help you during recovery and when to seek professional medical attention. Join a community of strong women, meet new friends, share experiences, share your new knowledge with other survivors, advocate to empower yourself and empower others!

Day Two: A Holistic Approach

Dig deeper and explore a holistic approach to conquering pain and anxiety  after breast cancer. Learn about  your energy centers better known as chakras and learn how to clear blockages in your body and mind. Learn to focus your breath to remove anxiety and improve lymphatic flow. Learn visualization techniques to let go of your worries and fears so you can channel your energies into healing and peace. Enhance your healing with essential oils and learn acupressure points. Dive into beginner yoga routines specified for breast cancer survivors that will keep your muscles limber and your lymph system flowing. Calm your mind and lift your spirits with mindfulness and meditation. Elevate your soul with the positive vibes of other women and join our tribe!
